Partial Hospitalization Program in Scottsdale, Arizona
A Partial Hospitalization Program, or PHP, is day treatment. You're here five days a week, five to six hours a day, for four to eight weeks. Then you go home. At Redefine in Scottsdale, that time is built from more than 20 clinical and integrative therapies, matched to what you actually need. Joint Commission accredited.

Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) in Scottsdale
PHP sits between weekly therapy and inpatient care. You get the structure of a hospital day without the hospital bed. Redefine runs it five days a week, 25 to 30 hours across the week, for four to eight weeks, inside our outpatient programs. Sessions like neurofeedback sit in the same schedule as your therapy.
- Therapies run together. Most programs move you through stages. Here, your therapist, psychiatric provider, and neurofeedback tech work the same week, so nothing waits its turn.
- Built around you. More than 20 modalities are on the table. Your clinical team picks the combination that fits your presentation, and changes it when your response says to.
- Home every evening. You practice what you worked on that day in the place it actually matters. Discharge at five, dinner at home.
PHP is one level of care. It is not the only one that fits.

PHP at Every Level of Care

Getting Started
Before anything is scheduled, you talk with our team by phone. We go through what has been happening, what you have already tried, and your insurance. Redefine is an out-of-network provider, so coverage and reimbursement vary by plan. Verify your benefits before you start.

A Week in PHP
Five days on site. Five to six hours each day. Mornings tend to be group and skills work, afternoons individual and body-based sessions. Your clinical team meets about your case during the same week you are in it, so a plan can change on a Wednesday instead of a month later.

Stepping Down
PHP ends when the structure stops helping. Most people step down to three days a week and 9 to 12 hours, so work and family fit back in. Some continue with individual sessions or a private retreat instead.

The PHP Process, Step by Step
You Call, We Listen
The first conversation is a phone call. Not a form. We ask what has been happening and what you have already tried. If PHP is not the right level for you, we say so and point you toward the one that is.
Assessment Shapes the Plan
A clinical assessment comes before your first full day. It sets which modalities go into your week and in what order. Your psychiatric provider reviews medication at the same time, not weeks into the program.
Five Days of Coordinated Care
Then the week starts. Twenty-five to thirty hours across five days, mixing group work, individual therapy, neurofeedback, and body-based sessions. Your team talks about your case while you are still in the week it happened.
Planning the Step Down
Four to eight weeks is a range. Not a countdown. What moves you out is your response, not a date on a form. Most people step down to a lighter level rather than stopping cold.
PHP asks for real time. Twenty-five to thirty hours a week is close to a full-time job and will not fit around one. If that is your constraint, a lighter level of care exists for that reason.

What PHP Is Built For
Depression and Anxiety
When getting through the day takes everything you have, a weekly session can be too thin a container. PHP gives the hours: therapy and skills groups in the morning, neurofeedback and psychiatric review built into the same week. We treat depression and anxiety as things you are experiencing, not what you are. Individual results vary.
- Structure on the days that feel impossible
- Medication reviewed by a psychiatric provider
- Nervous system work alongside talk therapy
Trauma and PTSD
Some things do not move with talk alone. PHP gives room for PTSD treatment to run next to somatic sessions and nervous system regulation, so the body is part of the work rather than an afterthought. Pacing is set by your clinician, not the calendar. Individual results vary.
- EMDR, somatic experiencing, and Brainspotting
- Trauma work paced by your clinician
- Grounding and regulation built into the day
Bipolar and Mood
Mood conditions need medication and structure moving together. In PHP your psychiatric provider and your therapist are in the same week, so a medication change and what you report in group are not two separate conversations. Bipolar disorder treatment here is coordinated, not handed off. Individual results vary.
- Psychiatry and therapy inside one schedule
- Sleep and routine tracked as clinical data
- Medication coordination throughout the program
Dual Diagnosis
Treating a mental health condition and a substance use disorder separately tends to leave one of them running. Our dual diagnosis treatment holds both inside one plan and one team. Person-first, without the moralizing. Individual results vary.
- One plan for both conditions
- Care for people with substance use disorders
- Psychiatric oversight throughout the program

This is a sample week, not a fixed schedule. Your clinical team decides what goes in yours and changes it as you respond. Program hours run 9 AM to 5 PM, Monday to Friday, and you go home each evening. Individual results vary.
Real Connection, Support, & Healing
Our Scottsdale outpatient programs combine innovative neuroscience with proven therapeutic approaches.
More Therapies, Better Outcomes
PHP is built from over 20 clinical and holistic approaches. You will not get all of them. Your clinical team selects the combination that fits your specific presentation, not a preset checklist, and delivers those together in the same week rather than in stages. That is the part most programs do not do.
Ask which of these belong in your week. That is a real conversation.

What the Research Says About PHP
Inside the Standard of Care
1 / 5Medicare defines partial hospitalization as a structured program providing outpatient psychiatric services as an alternative to inpatient psychiatric care. That is the level of care this page describes.
Medicare describes these programs as usually including between 4 and 8 hours of care each day, more intensive than what you get in a doctor's or therapist's office. Redefine runs 5 to 6 hours daily.
In 2022, an estimated 59.3 million U.S. adults had any mental illness, which is 23.1% of all adults, per the National Survey on Drug Use and Health.
Of those 59.3 million adults, 30.0 million, or 50.6%, received mental health treatment in the past year. Close to half received none at all.
Redefine's PHP runs five days a week, 25 to 30 hours weekly, across four to eight weeks. That sits inside the intensity range Medicare describes for this level of care.
