An Intensive Outpatient Program Minutes from Paradise Valley
Redefine Wellness & Treatment runs an adults-only mental health Intensive Outpatient Program in Scottsdale, three days a week and 9 to 12 hours in total, minutes east of the town line via Lincoln Drive and McDonald Drive. You keep your job and your week. When more structure is needed, the Partial Hospitalization Program is the level above it.
- Close without being visible. Treatment happens at our Scottsdale center, not in Paradise Valley itself. For many people in a small town, a short drive is a feature.
- Therapies run together. Your therapist, psychiatric provider, and neurofeedback tech work the same week. Nothing waits its turn.
- Your week stays yours. Nine to twelve hours is real clinical time, and it is not a full-time job. Work and family keep going around it.
The Town of Paradise Valley is small. Most of our clients there reach us in the time it takes to cross it.

Three Levels of Care for Adults near Paradise Valley

Structured Care That Fits a Working Week
The intensive outpatient level is the middle of Redefine's range of care. It runs three program days a week, 9 to 12 hours in total, built from individual therapy, group work, neurofeedback, and body-based sessions matched to you. Between program days you are home in Paradise Valley living your normal life. Not sure this is your level? The quiz takes a few minutes.

The Step Up: Five Days of Daytime Structure
Some weeks need more than three days can hold. The Partial Hospitalization Program, linked above, runs five days a week, 25 to 30 hours in total, five to six hours a day over 4 to 8 weeks. You still sleep at home. People often start there and step down to the IOP as things steady, which keeps the same clinical team across both levels.

Focused Immersion, Built Privately
A retreat concentrates care into a short, private immersion at our Scottsdale center, with a schedule built entirely around one person. For some Paradise Valley clients it is how treatment starts. For others it is a reset after a program ends. The Redefine team talks each format through by phone before anything is booked.
- The IOP Process
How Does IOP Work if You Live in Paradise Valley?
You Call, We Listen
One phone call to Redefine starts it. You tell us what is going on, we tell you honestly whether the intensive outpatient level fits, and what we would suggest if it does not. No forms before the conversation.
Assessment Shapes the Plan
At intake, a clinician maps what you are dealing with and which of our therapies belong in your week. The three program days are set around your work and family commitments, not the other way around.
Three Days of Coordinated Care
Your therapist, psychiatric provider, and neurofeedback tech work as one team inside the same week. The mix adjusts as you respond. On the other days you are back in Paradise Valley, at work or at home.
Planning What Comes After
Before the program ends, you and your team plan the next step, whether that is individual therapy, coaching, or continued psychiatric follow-up. You leave with a handover, not a goodbye.
The point of this level is what it leaves intact. Nine to twelve hours a week is enough clinical time to change something. The rest of the week stays yours. How long you stay depends on your response, and your team reviews that with you as you go.

What Can an Intensive Outpatient Program Help With?
IOP for Anxiety and Depression near Paradise Valley
Anxiety and depression rarely arrive one at a time. The exhaustion of one and the vigilance of the other tend to feed each other. That is the norm, not the exception. Redefine treats both inside one plan rather than as separate problems, using anxiety treatment and depression treatment alongside neurofeedback and skills work.
What this can include
- Generalized anxiety (GAD)
- Major depression
- Social anxiety
- Panic disorder
- Persistent depressive disorder
- Mixed anxiety and depression
You attend three days a week and drive home to Paradise Valley on the other four. Skills work and neurofeedback sit in the same week rather than in sequence, and if your response says something needs to change, the mix changes.
IOP for Trauma and PTSD near Paradise Valley
Some things do not move with talk alone. Redefine's trauma treatment puts EMDR and somatic experiencing next to nervous system regulation, so the body is part of the work rather than an afterthought. Pacing is set by your clinician. For post-traumatic stress specifically, see our PTSD treatment.
What this can include
- PTSD
- Complex PTSD (C-PTSD)
- Acute stress disorder
- Childhood trauma
- Developmental trauma
- Relational trauma
Trauma work here is paced deliberately. Processing sits inside a week that also carries regulation and support, so hard material has somewhere to settle before the short drive back over the town line. You are not doing this once a week and holding it alone in between.
IOP for Dual Diagnosis near Paradise Valley
Treating a mental health condition and a substance use disorder separately tends to leave one of them running. Redefine's dual diagnosis treatment holds both inside one plan and one team. Person-first, without the moralizing. Redefine is not a detox facility, so this level suits people who have already stabilized.
What this can include
- Anxiety with substance use
- Depression with substance use
- Trauma with substance use
- Alcohol use disorder
- Co-occurring disorders
- Medication coordination
Both conditions are reviewed by one team inside one plan. Therapy, group support, and medication coordination run in the same week, so your clinicians see the whole picture rather than half of it.
IOP for Bipolar and Mood Disorders near Paradise Valley
Mood conditions need medication and structure moving together. Here your psychiatric provider and your therapist are in the same week, so a medication change and what you report in group are not two separate conversations. One team, one plan. Bipolar disorder treatment is coordinated rather than handed off.
What this can include
- Bipolar I disorder
- Bipolar II disorder
- Cyclothymic disorder
- Mixed episodes
- Rapid cycling
- Mood instability
Structure is part of the treatment. Three set days a week builds a rhythm, and because your psychiatric provider and your therapist share a week, changes on one side reach the other quickly.
IOP for Borderline Personality Disorder near Paradise Valley
Skills have to be practiced often before they hold under pressure. Three days a week gives that repetition somewhere to happen, with the same clinicians each time. Repetition is the point. BPD treatment here pairs DBT skills training with individual therapy, and treats the wounds underneath rather than only the skills gap.
What this can include
- Borderline personality disorder
- Emotional instability
- Chronic emptiness
- Identity disturbance
- Fear of abandonment
- Self-harm behaviors
You practice in group, apply it at home between program days, and review what held and what did not with clinicians who know your history.
IOP for Grief and Loss near Paradise Valley
Grief that stays overwhelming months or years later is not a failure of will. Redefine's grief treatment uses somatic approaches and EMDR to help the nervous system hold what feels unbearable. Redefine does not put a timeline on it. The aim is capacity to carry the loss.
What this can include
- Complicated grief
- Traumatic loss
- Anticipatory grief
- Disenfranchised grief
- Loss of a relationship
- Multiple losses
Grief work is held by consistency: the same clinicians, three days a week, at a pace you can carry. Group support sits alongside individual work, because grief tends to isolate and treatment should not.
IOP for Emotional Dysregulation near Paradise Valley
A nervous system that never learned to regulate is not a character flaw. Redefine's emotional regulation treatment combines DBT skills training with neurofeedback and somatic work. It is a skill that was never built. Regulation is a capacity, and capacities are built through repetition in a supported setting before they hold on a hard day.
What this can include
- Emotional flooding
- Anger and irritability
- Mood swings
- Impulse control
- Emotional numbness
- Rejection sensitivity
The program week is the practice ground. Skills from group get used between program days, then reviewed while they are still fresh, with neurofeedback and somatic work running in the same weeks.
IOP for Burnout and Chronic Stress near Paradise Valley
High-functioning people tend to push until they cannot. Then it catches up. Because this level fits around a working week, Redefine's burnout treatment does not ask you to step away from the job while you address what running on empty has done to your nervous system.
What this can include
- Professional burnout
- Compassion fatigue
- Chronic stress
- Work and life imbalance
- Perfectionism
- Sleep disruption
Program hours run 9 AM to 5 PM, Monday to Friday, and which three days you attend is worked out around your work. Treatment looks at the patterns that produced the burnout, not only the exhaustion itself.
IOP for Life Transitions near Paradise Valley
Divorce, career upheaval, an empty house, retirement. Big change often surfaces what was manageable before everything shifted. The intensive outpatient level gives that a structure to happen inside. For working professionals who want the same work compressed into a short block instead, the Professionals Reset Retreat is another route.
What this can include
- Divorce and separation
- Career change or loss
- Empty nest
- Relationship endings
- Identity transitions
- Retirement adjustment
A transition gets what it rarely gets otherwise: structure, a consistent team, and enough weekly hours for the work to add up while the rest of your life keeps moving.

What Does a Three-Day IOP Week Look Like?
Day One
Day Two
Day Three
This is a sample pattern, not a fixed schedule. A Redefine intensive outpatient week runs three program days, and which three someone attends is worked out at intake around the commitments they already carry. What fills them comes from your Redefine care plan. It changes as you respond. Individual results vary.
Real Connection, Support, & Healing
Our Scottsdale outpatient programs combine innovative neuroscience with proven therapeutic approaches.
What Therapies Are Used in the IOP?
Redefine Wellness & Treatment draws on more than 20 clinical and integrative therapies, and each person's combination is chosen for their presentation rather than for an average case. Neurofeedback is a standard part of how Redefine helps the nervous system settle, and it runs alongside talk therapy and body-based work in the same week rather than in sequence. Your clinical team adjusts the mix as your response tells them to.

- Research
What Does the Research Say About Intensive Outpatient Care?
Medicare describes intensive outpatient programs as a level of care sitting between once-weekly therapy and inpatient or partial hospitalization psychiatric care. Redefine Wellness & Treatment delivers that level from its Scottsdale center, a short drive east of Paradise Valley.
The published evidence review in Psychiatric Services defines the intensive outpatient level as a minimum of 9 hours of service per week, typically delivered across three sessions. Redefine's 9 to 12 hours across three days sits at that standard.
In 2022, an estimated 59.3 million U.S. adults lived with a mental illness, 23.1% of all adults, and only about half received treatment that year, per the National Institute of Mental Health.
"IOPs are as effective as inpatient treatment for most individuals seeking care," concluded McCarty and colleagues in their evidence review for Psychiatric Services. Structure comparable to residential care, without leaving your life.
Redefine's IOP runs three days a week, 9 to 12 hours weekly, from our Joint Commission accredited center a short drive east of Paradise Valley. That sits inside the intensity range the sources here describe for this level of care.
