CBT Therapy in Scottsdale, Arizona
CBT at Redefine Wellness & Treatment in Scottsdale doesn't look like weekly outpatient therapy. Your sessions happen multiple times per week, informed by qEEG brain mapping and supported by a full clinical team. CBT targets the thought patterns, behaviors, and cognitive distortions driving your symptoms. When paired with neurofeedback and somatic work inside a structured PHP or IOP program, the results tend to be faster and more durable.
-
Most Researched Therapy in Existence. CBT has more clinical evidence than any other psychotherapy. We use it as a foundation because the data is clear.
-
Paired With Neurofeedback. Neurofeedback calms the brain while CBT reshapes thought patterns. Together they address cognitive and neurological layers.
-
Part of a Coordinated Plan. Your CBT therapist works alongside psychiatry, somatic specialists, and your full treatment team. Every session connects to your broader clinical picture.
CBT is one modality within individualized treatment plans built around your specific needs.

CBT at Every Level of Care
CBT Within PHP
In PHP, CBT sessions happen three to four times per week with the same clinician. Because you're on-site five days a week, your therapist can adjust techniques in real time, introduce behavioral experiments and track results the same day, and coordinate directly with your psychiatrist, neurofeedback specialist, and somatic therapist. This is the most supported environment for intensive cognitive and behavioral work.
CBT Within IOP
IOP delivers CBT two to three times per week within a structured three-day schedule. This format is for clients stepping down from PHP who need continued support, or for those whose symptoms require more than weekly therapy but who can maintain work or school. Individual CBT is still paired with neurofeedback and group therapy, and your clinical team continues to coordinate across modalities. The difference from PHP is scheduling flexibility, not a reduction in clinical quality.
CBT in Private Retreats
Private retreats condense CBT and complementary modalities into a focused, immersive format. Multiple CBT sessions are combined with neurofeedback, somatic work, and other therapies on a private, individualized schedule. This format is designed for people traveling to Scottsdale specifically for treatment, high-functioning professionals who can't take extended time away from work, or anyone who needs more than what weekly outpatient provides but can't commit to a multi-week program.

The CBT Process at Redefine
Identifying the Patterns That Drive It
Your therapist maps the specific thought patterns, cognitive distortions, and behaviors keeping your symptoms in place. This is targeted assessment, not open-ended exploration.
Building Awareness and Skills
You learn to catch automatic thoughts: the catastrophizing, all-or-nothing thinking, assumptions running on autopilot. Your therapist teaches cognitive restructuring and behavioral experiments. In intensive treatment, this happens daily.
Putting Skills Into Practice
CBT is active, not passive. You practice in real situations: behavioral activation for depression, graded exposure for anxiety, targeted skills for emotional regulation. In PHP, your therapist can process what happened and adjust the approach that same day.
Maintaining Progress, Preventing Relapse
Before discharge, your therapist helps you build a concrete relapse prevention plan: your early warning signs, the triggers most likely to reactivate old patterns, and strategies for each. You leave with tools, not dependence.
CBT doesn't ask you to just think positive. It teaches you to identify distorted thinking, test it against evidence, and build new responses. Most people notice shifts within the first few weeks of intensive treatment.
- Conditions CBT Treats
CBT & The Brain & Nervous System
Conditions CBT Effectively Treats
- Anxiety disorders — including generalized anxiety, panic disorder, social anxiety, and phobias
- Depression — major depressive disorder and treatment-resistant depression
- Trauma and PTSD — avoidance patterns, intrusive thoughts, cognitive distortions
- Bipolar disorder — mood monitoring and relapse prevention
- Emotional dysregulation — difficulty managing intense emotions, impulsivity, and interpersonal conflict
- Grief and complicated loss — cognitive processing and behavioral re-engagement
- Stress, burnout, and perfectionism — cognitive patterns driving overwork and avoidance
- Insomnia and sleep disorders — CBT-I is the gold-standard treatment for chronic insomnia
Signs Your Thought Patterns May Be Driving Your Symptoms
- Constant worst-case thinking you can't turn off — catastrophic scenarios running on repeat, even when you know they're unlikely
- Avoidance that keeps shrinking your world — skipping events or opportunities because "what if" feels heavier than going
- Physical symptoms with no medical explanation — chest tightness, GI issues, headaches, or chronic tension
- Knowing what to do but being unable to do it — understanding your patterns intellectually but repeating them anyway
- Negative self-talk on autopilot — "I'm not good enough," "Something's wrong with me" — beliefs that feel like facts
- Emotional reactions that don't match the situation — snapping at small things, shutting down when you know you're safe
- Ruminating for hours or days — replaying conversations, decisions, or mistakes without reaching resolution
- Functioning well externally while struggling internally — performing at work while quietly managing something heavier

How CBT Is Integrated in the Outpatient Schedule
This is a sample PHP week, not a fixed schedule. Your clinical team builds your plan around your specific presentation. Some clients do more individual CBT sessions; others need more somatic work initially. The combination shifts as your symptoms respond.

Our CBT Therapists
Brenna Gonzales
Licensed Professional Counselor · Somatic Experiencing Practitioner · Certified Multiple Addictions Therapist
Brenna pairs CBT with somatic experiencing and neurofeedback to address both the cognitive patterns and the nervous system activation that keeps them stuck. When someone's body is still running a threat response, cognitive tools alone often can't gain traction.

More Therapies, Better Outcomes
CBT is one tool within a much larger system. At Redefine, your clinical team pulls from over 20 clinical and holistic modalities to build a treatment plan that matches your specific presentation, not a preset protocol. CBT addresses thought patterns and behaviors. Other modalities address what CBT doesn't reach on its own: nervous system dysregulation, trauma stored in the body, brain wave patterns that keep the stress response activated, and relational patterns that maintain the cycle. Your team selects the combination. You don't have to figure out which modalities you need. That's our job.
Every modality listed here can work alongside CBT within your individualized treatment plan.

The Research on CBT's Effectiveness in Treatment
What the Latest Research Shows
— Updated 2025The largest meta-analysis of CBT to date reviewed 375 randomized trials involving nearly 33,000 participants, confirming strong effectiveness across anxiety disorders, depression, PTSD, and trauma-related conditions.
Combining CBT with neurofeedback showed enhanced treatment efficacy and higher remission rates at follow-up compared to CBT alone, supporting the multi-modal approach used at Redefine.
A study of 951 participants in a partial hospitalization program found that brief, intensive CBT delivery significantly reduced depressive symptoms, with low dropout rates and high patient satisfaction.
A Lancet randomized controlled trial of 469 patients found CBT effective as an adjunct for treatment-resistant depression: the patients most likely to need intensive programs rather than weekly outpatient therapy.
Combined neurofeedback and HRV biofeedback training reduced anxiety symptoms in 82.8% and depression symptoms in 81.1% of participants, modalities that Redefine pairs with CBT daily.
