Specialized Depression Treatment in Scottsdale, Arizona

At Redefine, our Scottsdale depression  treatment programs treat depression the way it actually works: not just in your mind, but in your body and nervous system.

We build your treatment around what we find, not a standard protocol. More tools, more options, better outcomes.

When Depression Is Running the Show

PHP makes sense when depression has taken over. When getting out of bed feels impossible, when you've stopped showing up to your own life, when the weight of it is too heavy to carry alone. This isn't about fitting you into a schedule. We build your treatment around what your nervous system actually needs, adjusting modalities and intensity as you stabilize.

Modalities chosen for your depression
Schedule built around your needs
Neurofeedback to accelerate stabilization
Step down to IOP when ready
Individual + group balance varies
Duration based on progress, not protocol

When You Need Treatment That Fits Your Life

IOP works when depression is disruptive but not disabling. Maybe you're stepping down from PHP, or maybe you've been white-knuckling through work and finally hit a wall. Either way, we tailor the approach: which modalities, how often, what balance of skill-building versus deeper processing. Your life doesn't stop, and neither does your treatment.

Flexible scheduling options
Continue working or caregiving
Same modalities as PHP
Intensity adjusts as you progress
Skills practice between sessions
Entry point or step-down option

When You Need Focused, Accelerated Work

Retreats and intensives are for people who can't commit to weeks of treatment but need more than weekly therapy is giving them. Executives who need discretion. Out-of-state clients. People stuck in treatment-resistant patterns who want to go deep, fast. We design each intensive around your history, goals, and timeline.

Completely private, one-on-one
Length customized (3-7+ days)
Built around your specific needs
Ideal for out-of-state clients
Months of progress in days
Discretion for professionals

Depression Treatment at Every Level of Care

Major Depressive Disorder

Major Depressive Disorder Treatment

Major depressive disorder is more than sadness. It's a persistent heaviness that affects how you think, feel, and function. You might lose interest in things you used to enjoy, struggle to concentrate, or feel worthless for no clear reason. Episodes can last weeks or months, and for many people, they come back.

  • Persistent sad or empty mood
  • Loss of interest or pleasure
  • Fatigue or low energy
  • Sleep changes
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Feelings of worthlessness

Our Approach

Your treatment plan is built around what your nervous system actually needs. We have over 20 modalities available, including neurofeedback, CBT, DBT, and somatic experiencing, and our clinical team determines which combination makes sense for you. No two treatment plans look the same.

Persistent Depressive Disorder

Persistent Depressive Disorder Treatment

Dysthymia doesn't always look like depression from the outside. It's a low-grade, chronic heaviness that lasts for years. You function, but everything feels harder than it should. Many people with persistent depression don't realize how long they've been living this way until they finally feel something different.

  • Chronic low mood
  • Low energy or fatigue
  • Poor concentration
  • Low self-esteem
  • Hopelessness
  • Sleep or appetite changes

Our Approach

Your treatment plan is built around what your nervous system actually needs. We have over 20 modalities available, including neurofeedback, behavioral activation, and breathwork, and our clinical team determines which combination makes sense for you. No two treatment plans look the same.

Treatment-Resistant Depression

Treatment-Resistant Depression Treatment

If you've tried multiple medications or years of therapy without lasting improvement, you're not broken. Treatment-resistant depression often means the approaches you've tried didn't address what's actually going on in your brain and nervous system. Different tools get different results.

  • No response to antidepressants
  • Partial improvement only
  • Symptoms return after treatment
  • Multiple failed treatments
  • Ongoing functional impairment

Our Approach

Your treatment plan is built around what your nervous system actually needs. We use qEEG brain mapping to see how depression is actually affecting your brain, then build your protocol around what we find. Neurofeedback, somatic work, and ketamine-assisted therapy are often part of the picture for treatment-resistant cases.

High-Functioning Depression

High-Functioning Depression Treatment

You show up. You perform. From the outside, everything looks fine. But inside, you're exhausted, disconnected, and running on empty. High-functioning depression often goes undiagnosed because you don't "look" depressed. That doesn't mean you're not suffering.

  • Appearing "fine" to others
  • Constant exhaustion
  • Inner emptiness
  • Perfectionism or overworking
  • Difficulty feeling joy
  • Self-criticism

Our Approach

Your treatment plan is built around what your nervous system actually needs. We work with a lot of high-achievers who've been managing symptoms for years. Neurofeedback, somatic work, and skills-based therapies help you stop white-knuckling and actually feel better.

Postpartum Depression

Postpartum Depression Treatment

Postpartum depression is not a failure of motherhood. Hormonal shifts, sleep deprivation, and the massive identity change of becoming a parent can overwhelm even the most prepared nervous system. You might feel disconnected from your baby, overwhelmed by simple tasks, or scared by your own thoughts.

  • Feeling disconnected from baby
  • Overwhelming sadness or anxiety
  • Difficulty bonding
  • Intrusive thoughts
  • Exhaustion beyond normal fatigue
  • Guilt or shame

Our Approach

Your treatment plan is built around what your nervous system actually needs. We offer flexible outpatient scheduling for new mothers, and our approach addresses the hormonal, emotional, and relational layers of postpartum depression. Learn more about our postpartum treatment program.

Seasonal Affective Disorder

Seasonal Affective Disorder Treatment

Seasonal affective disorder follows a pattern tied to changes in light and season. Most people experience it in fall and winter, when days get shorter. It's not just "winter blues." SAD can significantly impair your functioning, energy, and mood for months at a time.

  • Depression in fall/winter
  • Low energy
  • Oversleeping
  • Carbohydrate cravings
  • Weight gain
  • Social withdrawal

Our Approach

Your treatment plan is built around what your nervous system actually needs. For SAD, we often incorporate light therapy, neurofeedback, and behavioral activation alongside talk therapy. We address both the biological and behavioral patterns keeping you stuck.

Depression with Anxiety

Depression and Anxiety Treatment

Depression and anxiety often show up together. You might feel exhausted but unable to rest, unmotivated but constantly worried, or stuck between wanting to do nothing and feeling panicked about everything. When both are present, treatment needs to address both.

  • Fatigue with restlessness
  • Worry and low mood
  • Sleep problems
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Irritability
  • Physical tension

Our Approach

Your treatment plan is built around what your nervous system actually needs. Co-occurring depression and anxiety require an integrated approach. We use neurofeedback, DBT, somatic experiencing, and nervous system regulation techniques to address both patterns simultaneously.

Situational Depression

Situational Depression Treatment

Situational depression is triggered by a specific life event: divorce, job loss, a health diagnosis, the death of someone close. It's a normal response to abnormal circumstances. But when symptoms persist or start affecting your ability to function, treatment can help you process what happened and move forward.

  • Depression following life event
  • Difficulty adjusting
  • Persistent sadness
  • Withdrawal from others
  • Trouble with daily tasks
  • Hopelessness about the future

Our Approach

Your treatment plan is built around what your nervous system actually needs. For situational depression, we often focus on processing the triggering event through EMDR, somatic work, or grief-focused therapy, while building skills to help you stabilize and move forward.

Depression Looks Different for Everyone

Brain & Nervous System

Depression involves measurable changes in brain activity and nervous system regulation. These modalities directly address neural patterns, helping the brain shift out of depressive states and restore healthier functioning.

Thought & Behavior Patterns

Depression distorts thinking: everything feels hopeless, you're convinced nothing will help, and motivation disappears. These therapies interrupt negative thought cycles and rebuild behavioral activation step by step.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Dialectical Behavior Therapy Acceptance & Commitment Therapy

Underlying Roots

Depression often has deeper roots: unprocessed grief, childhood experiences, or trauma that never got addressed. These modalities work beneath the surface to resolve what's actually driving the depression.

EMDR Internal Family Systems Brainspotting Somatic Experiencing

Body & Energy

Depression lives in the body as heaviness, fatigue, and disconnection. When you can't think your way out, body-based approaches help restore energy, release stored tension, and reconnect you to physical sensation.

Your treatment plan is built around what's actually driving your depression. We use qEEG brain mapping and clinical assessment to determine which combination of modalities will work best for you.

5 star review - graphic with 5 stars
What I was most happy about and sold me on getting therapy myself was how caring everyone is. And it’s not time limited. Like if you need an extra 20 mins cause it was a hard session then they will work with you to get that extra 20 mins. And they didn’t seem rushed to get to the next person. I’m so happy to say I would 100% recommend this place over and over.

I did a 5-day intensive at Redefine and it was exactly what I needed. The space was calm and private, and the sessions were deep but manageable. Your Questions, Answered

How do I know if I need treatment for depression?

If depression is affecting your ability to work, maintain relationships, or handle daily tasks, and weekly therapy or medication alone hasn’t produced lasting change, intensive treatment is worth considering. Most of our clients have been managing symptoms for months or years before reaching out. They’re not in crisis, necessarily. They’re just tired of functioning at 40% and calling it fine. If you’re unsure, our admissions team can help you determine whether PHP, IOP, or another level of care makes sense for where you are right now.

Not necessarily. We actually see a lot of clients who’ve tried medication without lasting results—or who want to address root causes rather than manage symptoms. Our approach emphasizes neurofeedback, somatic therapy, EMDR, breathwork, and other body-based modalities. Some clients do benefit from medication as part of their treatment, but it’s never the only tool. We have a lot more options than that.

It comes down to intensity and time. Our intensive outpatient program meets 3 days a week for 3-4 hours—structured support while you maintain work or family responsibilities. PHP (partial hospitalization) is 5 days a week, 5-6 hours daily. We typically recommend PHP when someone needs more containment—when weekly therapy isn’t enough and the depression is significantly impacting daily functioning.

Honest answer: it depends. Most clients in our PHP are with us 4-8 weeks. IOP can range from 6-12 weeks. But here’s what we’ve learned—the timeline matters less than what happens during treatment. We use neurofeedback to help clients stabilize faster (often within the first two weeks), which means the deeper therapeutic work can actually stick. Some people feel significantly better in weeks. For others, especially with recurrent depression or underlying trauma, it takes longer.

That’s not something we can promise—and anyone who does is oversimplifying. What we can do is give you more tools so medication isn’t doing all the heavy lifting. A lot of our clients come in wanting to reduce or eventually stop their meds, and that’s a reasonable goal to work toward. But it has to happen gradually, under medical supervision, and only when your nervous system has other ways to regulate.

Here’s what we’ve seen: when clients add neurofeedback, somatic work, and lifestyle practices to their treatment, they often find they need less medication support over time. Some taper down. Some come off entirely. Others find a lower dose works better than it used to. Our psychiatrist, Dr. Yasinski, works collaboratively with clients on medication decisions—we’re not anti-medication, but we’re also not medication-first. The goal is building enough internal regulation that you have options.

Our Mission

At Redefine Wellness and Treatment, we empower healing by uniting mind, body, and spirit. Using trauma-informed therapies, neuroscience, and holistic practices, we deliver personalized care that fosters resilience, growth, and lasting transformation.

Depression Research

Why Holistic Depression Treatment Works

The research is clear: approaches that engage the body—not just the mind—produce real, measurable change. These findings come from peer-reviewed meta-analyses and systematic reviews.

Body-based therapy session for depression treatment
Neurofeedback Works

A systematic review of 24 studies (480 patients) found neurofeedback produced symptom improvement superior to control groups in the majority of trials. It's now being studied for treatment-resistant depression.

74%
Mind-Body Approach

Of 90 papers reviewed, 74% of quality studies showed positive effects on depression. Body-oriented approaches—yoga, mindfulness, somatic practices—consistently improve symptoms across different populations.

3x
Trauma Treatment Helps

Depression response rates were 3x higher when underlying trauma was addressed. This meta-analysis of 136 trials (8,868 participants) shows why treating root causes—not just symptoms—matters.

Why We Combine These Approaches

Neurofeedback helps regulate your brain. Somatic work releases what's stored in the body. Yoga and breathwork calm the nervous system. At Redefine, we use neurofeedback, breathwork, somatic therapy, and meditation together because depression isn't just in your head. Treatment shouldn't be either.
