About Redefine Wellness & Treatment
Redefine Wellness & Treatment is a Joint Commission-accredited mental health treatment center in Scottsdale, Arizona. We offer Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP), Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP), private retreats, and individual wellness services for adults.
Our clinical team specializes in treating anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, and co-occurring conditions using 20+ evidence-based and holistic treatment modalities.
Redefine Wellness & Treatment is located in Scottsdale, Arizona. Our facility serves adults from across the Phoenix metropolitan area and nationwide who travel for intensive mental health treatment. Scottsdale's year-round climate and wellness-oriented environment support the recovery process.
Yes. Redefine Wellness & Treatment holds Joint Commission accreditation, which is the highest standard for healthcare quality and patient safety in the United States. Joint Commission accreditation requires ongoing compliance with rigorous clinical, operational, and safety standards, verified through regular on-site evaluations.
Redefine offers 20+ treatment modalities, significantly more than most mental health programs. Our approach combines evidence-based therapies (CBT, DBT, EMDR) with nervous system-focused modalities including neurofeedback, PEMF therapy, breathwork, and somatic experiencing.
Treatment plans are built around qEEG brain mapping and comprehensive assessment, not a standardized protocol. This means each person's treatment actually reflects their specific needs. Our clinical team has 40+ combined years of experience.
The Redefine Way™ is our branded treatment framework built on the concept of Central Nervous System Optimization. Rather than treating symptoms in isolation, the framework addresses mental health through six interconnected pillars that work simultaneously: a symphony rather than a sequence of steps.
The six pillars: Essence/Foundation (skills, education, mindfulness), Movement/Connection (group work, lifestyle coaching), Mapping (individual therapy, parts work), Navigating (experiential therapy, relational re-orientation), Guidance (spirituality, energy work), and Frequency Shift (neurofeedback, breathwork, PEMF, values transformation).
Redefine's clinical team includes licensed therapists, psychiatrists, and program directors with specialized training in trauma, somatic approaches, EMDR, DBT, and neurofeedback. Our team has 40+ combined years treating adults with anxiety, depression, trauma, and co-occurring conditions.
Every client works with a dedicated treatment team, not rotating staff, which allows for deeper therapeutic relationships and more consistent care throughout the program.
Programs & Levels of Care
A Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) is the most intensive outpatient level of mental health care. At Redefine, PHP runs 5 days per week for 5-6 hours daily, totaling 25-30 hours of treatment per week. Programs typically last 4-8 weeks depending on clinical progress.
PHP is appropriate for adults who need significant clinical support but don't require 24-hour residential care. Clients attend structured programming during the day and return home each evening.
An Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) provides structured mental health treatment 3 days per week for 9-12 hours weekly. IOP is designed for adults who need more support than weekly therapy but can maintain some daily responsibilities while in treatment.
IOP can serve as a step-down from PHP or as an entry point for people who don't require the highest level of outpatient intensity.
The main differences are treatment intensity and time commitment. PHP provides 25-30 hours per week (5 days, 5-6 hours daily), while IOP provides 9-12 hours per week (3 days). PHP is appropriate when symptoms significantly impair daily functioning; IOP works well when someone needs substantial support but can maintain some responsibilities.
Both programs include individual therapy, group therapy, neurofeedback, and holistic modalities. Not sure which level is right? Our level of care quiz can help.
PHP programs typically last 4-8 weeks. IOP duration depends on clinical progress and individual needs. Treatment length is determined collaboratively between the client, therapist, and clinical team based on symptom severity, treatment response, and functional improvement.
Some clients complete PHP and step down to IOP for continued support. Length of stay is based on measurable progress, not an arbitrary timeline.
A typical PHP day includes individual therapy, group therapy, neurofeedback sessions, and holistic modalities like breathwork or PEMF therapy. Programming runs 5-6 hours and addresses both cognitive and nervous system components of mental health conditions.
The specific schedule varies by person because treatment plans are individualized. One client's day might include neurofeedback, individual therapy, and a DBT skills group, while another might have EMDR, somatic experiencing, and breathwork.
Redefine offers 20+ treatment modalities. Evidence-based therapies include CBT, DBT, EMDR, and Internal Family Systems (IFS/parts work). Nervous system-focused modalities include neurofeedback, PEMF therapy, breathwork, somatic experiencing, Reiki, and yin yoga with guided meditation.
Not every client receives every modality. Treatment plans are built around qEEG brain mapping and clinical assessment to match the right combination to each person's condition.
Yes. Redefine provides psychiatric evaluation and medication management as part of treatment when clinically appropriate. Our psychiatrists work closely with the therapy team to ensure medication supports the therapeutic work.
Medication decisions are collaborative, and our team regularly evaluates whether adjustments are needed based on treatment progress and symptom changes.
Mental Health Conditions We Treat
Redefine Wellness & Treatment specializes in treating adults with:
- Anxiety disorders (generalized anxiety, panic disorder, social anxiety, phobias)
- Depression (major depressive disorder, persistent depressive disorder)
- Trauma and PTSD
- Bipolar disorder
- Borderline personality disorder (BPD)
- Grief and loss
- Emotional dysregulation
- Postpartum depression
Yes. Trauma and PTSD treatment is a core specialty at Redefine. Our approach addresses trauma at both the cognitive and nervous system level using EMDR, somatic experiencing, neurofeedback, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and breathwork.
We treat single-incident trauma, complex/developmental trauma, and PTSD that hasn't responded to traditional weekly therapy. Neurofeedback helps trauma clients reach a regulated baseline faster, often within the first two weeks, which makes deeper processing possible sooner.
Yes. Redefine treats generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, social anxiety, health anxiety, and phobias. Our anxiety treatment combines CBT and DBT for cognitive patterns with neurofeedback and somatic therapies for the nervous system dysregulation that keeps anxiety activated.
Many clients arrive having done years of talk therapy with limited relief from physical symptoms (racing heart, chest tightness, GI issues). We address both the cognitive and somatic components simultaneously.
Yes. Redefine treats major depressive disorder, persistent depressive disorder, and depression that co-occurs with anxiety, trauma, or other conditions. Our treatment addresses the neurological and somatic patterns of depression, not just the cognitive symptoms.
Depression often involves disrupted neurotransmitter function, sleep cycles, and cortisol regulation. Neurofeedback, PEMF therapy, and behavioral activation combined with evidence-based talk therapy address these layers simultaneously.
Yes. Most clients at Redefine present with more than one condition: anxiety with depression, trauma with emotional dysregulation, PTSD with substance use concerns. Our treatment model is designed for this complexity, addressing the underlying patterns that connect multiple diagnoses rather than treating each one separately.
Having 20+ modalities available means we can match the treatment approach to the full clinical picture, not just the primary diagnosis.
That's common, and more normal than you'd think. Many people know something is wrong but can't name it, or they've received conflicting diagnoses. Our intake process includes comprehensive clinical assessment and qEEG brain mapping that help clarify what's actually going on.
You don't need a diagnosis to start a conversation with us. Our admissions team can help determine whether our programs are a good fit during a free initial consultation. You can also take our level of care quiz as a starting point.
Treatment Modalities
Neurofeedback is a non-invasive brain training technique that uses real-time EEG monitoring to help the brain learn healthier patterns. Sensors placed on the scalp measure brainwave activity while visual or auditory feedback guides the brain toward more regulated states.
At Redefine, neurofeedback is guided by qEEG brain mapping, a baseline assessment that shows exactly which brainwave patterns are dysregulated. In our experience, clients with neurofeedback reach stable baseline states faster than those without it, often within the first two weeks of treatment.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based therapy for trauma and PTSD that uses bilateral stimulation, typically guided eye movements, to help the brain reprocess traumatic memories. Unlike traditional talk therapy, EMDR doesn't require clients to repeatedly describe traumatic experiences in detail.
EMDR is effective for single-incident trauma, complex trauma, anxiety disorders, and some presentations of depression. It's one of the most well-researched trauma therapies available.
PEMF (Pulsed Electromagnetic Field) therapy uses low-frequency electromagnetic pulses to support cellular function and nervous system regulation. It's non-invasive, painless, and used at Redefine as part of our body-based approach to mental health treatment.
PEMF supports recovery from the physical effects of chronic stress, anxiety, and depression, particularly when nervous system dysregulation has created systemic tension and fatigue.
Breathwork uses structured breathing techniques to directly regulate the nervous system. The exhale phase of controlled breathing stimulates the vagus nerve, activating the parasympathetic ("rest and digest") response and counteracting the chronic fight-or-flight activation common in anxiety, trauma, and depression.
At Redefine, breathwork is both a treatment modality and a skill clients take with them after discharge. It's one of the most immediately effective tools for managing acute anxiety and emotional dysregulation.
Somatic experiencing is a body-oriented therapy for trauma and stress-related conditions. It helps the body complete unresolved survival responses (fight, flight, freeze) that remain stored after traumatic experiences. Rather than focusing on the narrative, somatic work addresses the physical patterns trauma leaves behind.
At Redefine, somatic experiencing is particularly effective for clients with chronic physical tension, dissociation, or heightened startle responses. It's often combined with EMDR and neurofeedback for comprehensive trauma treatment.
Yes. Every treatment plan at Redefine is built on evidence-based therapies: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), EMDR, and Internal Family Systems (IFS). These form the clinical foundation of our programs.
We also integrate nervous system-focused modalities, including neurofeedback, PEMF, breathwork, and somatic experiencing, supported by growing clinical evidence. We use what works, whether from traditional psychotherapy research or newer neurobiological approaches.
Insurance & Cost
Yes. Redefine Wellness & Treatment works with most major insurance providers on an out-of-network basis. Our admissions team handles all insurance verification and authorization so you can focus on treatment rather than paperwork.
Many clients find their out-of-network benefits cover a significant portion of treatment costs. You can check your coverage online or call our admissions team for a complimentary benefits verification.
Out-of-network means Redefine is not contracted with your insurance company at a pre-negotiated rate, but your plan may still cover a significant portion of treatment costs. Most PPO plans include out-of-network benefits with a separate deductible and coinsurance rate (often 60-80% coverage after the deductible is met).
Many clients choose out-of-network treatment specifically for access to specialized programming, lower client-to-clinician ratios, and modalities that aren't available at in-network facilities.
Two options: take our online insurance quiz for a quick initial assessment, or call our admissions team for a complimentary, comprehensive benefits verification. They'll review your deductible, coinsurance, out-of-network benefits, and estimated out-of-pocket costs.
Verification happens before treatment begins so you have a clear understanding of your financial responsibility.
A gap exception (or single case agreement) is an arrangement where your insurance company agrees to cover out-of-network treatment at in-network rates. This typically happens when specialized services you need aren't available from in-network providers in your area.
Redefine's admissions team has experience negotiating gap exceptions with major insurers. We handle the process on your behalf, including documenting clinical necessity and the lack of comparable in-network options.
Self-pay rates vary based on program level (PHP vs. IOP) and treatment duration. We recommend contacting our admissions team directly for current pricing and payment options.
Before exploring self-pay, it's worth verifying your insurance benefits. Many clients are surprised to discover their plans cover more than expected, even on an out-of-network basis. Our team provides this verification at no cost.
Private Retreats
Redefine offers five private retreat programs:
- Intensive Trauma Therapy Retreat - focused trauma processing
- Deep Dive Healing Retreat - comprehensive therapeutic immersion
- Professionals Reset Retreat - burnout and executive stress
- Wellness Retreat - mental wellness and prevention
- New Beginnings Retreat - life transitions and fresh starts
Retreat duration varies by program and is customized to each participant. Retreats typically range from several days to a week or more. The clinical team works with each person before arrival to determine appropriate duration based on goals and the depth of work planned.
Retreats serve adults who want intensive therapeutic work in a condensed timeframe. This includes professionals who can't take 4-8 weeks for PHP, people traveling from out of state, those wanting focused work on a specific issue, and individuals who prefer private, individualized programming over a group format.
The Professionals Reset Retreat is specifically designed for executives and high-performing professionals dealing with burnout, chronic stress, or work-related mental health concerns.
Retreats include individualized daily programming with a dedicated clinical team. Depending on the type, participants may receive individual therapy, neurofeedback, EMDR, somatic work, breathwork, PEMF therapy, experiential activities, and other modalities from Redefine's full treatment menu.
Because retreats are private, the schedule is built around the participant's specific goals rather than a fixed group curriculum.
Yes. Redefine retreats are clinically driven, not wellness vacations. Every retreat includes individual therapy with licensed clinicians, and most include additional modalities like neurofeedback, EMDR, or somatic work depending on the participant's needs.
The Intensive Trauma Therapy Retreat, for example, involves concentrated EMDR and somatic processing sessions that produce more therapeutic work in days than traditional weekly therapy achieves in months.
Getting Started
Starting treatment begins with a phone call or online inquiry to our admissions team. The process: insurance verification (our team handles this), a clinical phone screening to determine the appropriate level of care, and scheduling your intake assessment.
Most people can begin treatment within days of their initial call. You can also start with our level of care quiz or insurance verification.
Redefine intentionally maintains small program sizes, so availability can vary. However, we understand that when someone is ready for treatment, waiting can be harmful. Our admissions team works to get people started as quickly as possible, often within days.
Calling early gives us the best chance to align your start date with your timeline.
Yes. We welcome and encourage facility tours. Seeing the treatment environment and meeting the admissions team often helps people feel more comfortable with the decision to enter treatment. Contact us to schedule a visit.
Your first day includes a comprehensive intake assessment: psychiatric evaluation, clinical interview, review of your history and treatment goals, and typically a qEEG brain mapping session. The goal is to build a clear picture of what's going on so your treatment plan reflects your actual needs.
The team will walk you through the daily schedule, introduce you to staff, and answer any questions. Most clients begin therapeutic programming within their first day or two.
Since PHP and IOP are outpatient programs (you don't stay overnight), bring what you need for a structured day: comfortable clothing, any current medications, insurance information, and a photo ID. The admissions team provides a complete checklist during intake.
For clients traveling from out of state, our team can provide guidance on local accommodations near the Scottsdale facility.
Yes. Family involvement is an important part of treatment when clinically appropriate. This can include family therapy sessions, relational re-orientation work (communication skills, boundary setting), and psychoeducation for family members about the condition and treatment process.
The clinical team determines appropriate family involvement based on the client's needs and preferences. Some clients benefit from significant family participation; others need to focus on individual work first.
