Specialized Anxiety Treatment in Scottsdale, Arizona
At Redefine Wellness & Treatment in Scottsdale, our anxiety treatment program starts with what most centers skip—mapping your brain and nervous system before deciding how to treat them.
- Brain-Based Treatment Neurofeedback and qEEG mapping show us exactly which patterns are keeping you stuck. We don't guess. We measure.
- Body Work, Not Just Talk Chronic anxiety lives in your chest, your jaw, your shoulders. Somatic therapies help release what years of "managing it" have stored.
- Nervous System Reset We work with your body's stress response directly. Breathwork, PEMF, and somatic approaches help your system remember what calm actually feels like.
- Flexible Intensity PHP for those who need full immersion. IOP for those balancing work and life. Both built for people who've outgrown weekly therapy.
- Levels of Care
Anxiety Treatment at Every Level of Care
Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)
PHP provides the highest level of outpatient care for anxiety that significantly impacts daily functioning. This program is appropriate when weekly therapy hasn't produced lasting results, when physical symptoms persist despite other interventions, or when anxiety is affecting your ability to work, maintain relationships, or complete daily tasks. Treatment runs 5 days per week, 5–6 hours daily, for 4–8 weeks.
Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)
IOP provides structured treatment while allowing you to maintain work, family, and other responsibilities. This program is appropriate for anxiety that's affecting quality of life but doesn't require full-day treatment, or as a step-down from PHP. Treatment runs 3 days per week, 3–4 hours per session, with morning or afternoon scheduling options available.
Private Therapeutic Retreats
Our private retreats offer concentrated, individualized treatment for those who need intensive intervention but cannot commit to ongoing weekly programming. Retreats are fully customized to your clinical needs and schedule—ranging from 3-day intensives to week-long immersions. Ideal for executives, professionals, or anyone traveling to Scottsdale specifically for treatment.
Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD)
GAD involves persistent, excessive worry across multiple areas of life—work, health, relationships, finances—often without a specific trigger. The worry feels uncontrollable and is typically accompanied by physical symptoms including muscle tension, fatigue, and sleep disruption.
Common Symptoms
- Chronic worry
- Muscle tension
- Sleep problems
- Difficulty concentrating
- Irritability
- Restlessness
- Fatigue
How We Treat GAD at Redefine
Treatment is tailored based on individual assessment, including qEEG brain mapping. For GAD, we typically combine neurofeedback to address overactive brain patterns, somatic therapy to release chronic physical tension, and DBT skills training to change your relationship with worry. Most clients notice reduced anxiety within the first two weeks of treatment.
Panic Disorder
Panic disorder involves recurrent, unexpected panic attacks—sudden surges of intense fear that peak within minutes. The attacks often come without warning and can feel like a heart attack or loss of control. Many people develop anticipatory anxiety, constantly worrying about the next attack.
Common Symptoms
- Racing heart
- Chest tightness
- Shortness of breath
- Dizziness
- Sweating
- Fear of dying
- Feeling detached
How We Treat Panic Disorder at Redefine
Panic responds well to nervous system-focused treatment. We use neurofeedback to help the brain regulate its threat response, breathwork to interrupt the panic cycle, and interoceptive exposure to reduce fear of physical sensations. Clients learn to recognize early warning signs and intervene before full panic develops.
Social Anxiety Disorder
Social anxiety involves intense fear of social situations where you might be judged, embarrassed, or rejected. It goes beyond normal nervousness—the fear is persistent, often leads to avoidance, and can significantly impact work, relationships, and daily functioning.
Common Symptoms
- Fear of judgment
- Avoidance of social situations
- Blushing
- Trembling
- Nausea
- Difficulty speaking
- Self-consciousness
How We Treat Social Anxiety at Redefine
Our small group sizes (8-10 clients) create a safe environment for gradual exposure. Treatment combines CBT to challenge unhelpful thought patterns, somatic work to manage physical symptoms, and real-world practice in a supportive setting. Many professionals find our IOP schedule allows them to maintain work while building confidence.
Health Anxiety (Illness Anxiety Disorder)
Health anxiety involves persistent preoccupation with having or developing a serious illness, despite medical reassurance. Normal body sensations are misinterpreted as signs of disease. The cycle of worry, body checking, and reassurance-seeking can become consuming.
Common Symptoms
- Constant body monitoring
- Seeking reassurance
- Excessive Googling symptoms
- Doctor shopping
- Fear of serious illness
- Avoiding health information
How We Treat Health Anxiety at Redefine
Health anxiety shares features with OCD, and we treat it similarly. Exposure and response prevention (ERP) helps break the reassurance-seeking cycle. Somatic therapy helps clients develop a healthier relationship with body sensations, while neurofeedback addresses the underlying anxiety patterns driving the hypervigilance.
Specific Phobias
Specific phobias involve intense, irrational fear of particular objects or situations—flying, heights, animals, blood, needles, enclosed spaces, and more. The fear is immediate and overwhelming, leading to avoidance that can significantly limit daily life and opportunities.
Common Symptoms
- Immediate fear response
- Active avoidance
- Panic when exposed
- Anticipatory anxiety
- Physical symptoms
- Recognition fear is excessive
How We Treat Phobias at Redefine
Exposure therapy is the gold standard for phobias, with success rates above 90%. We use gradual, systematic desensitization combined with somatic techniques to help your nervous system learn the feared object or situation is actually safe. Most phobias respond well to focused, intensive treatment over several weeks.
Agoraphobia
Agoraphobia involves fear and avoidance of situations where escape might be difficult or help unavailable—crowds, public transportation, open spaces, enclosed spaces, or being outside alone. It often develops after panic attacks but can occur independently.
Common Symptoms
- Fear of public places
- Avoiding crowds
- Fear of leaving home
- Needing a companion
- Panic in certain situations
- Restricted lifestyle
How We Treat Agoraphobia at Redefine
Treatment combines in-session work with real-world exposure practice. We address the underlying panic response with neurofeedback and breathwork, then gradually expand your comfort zone through structured exposure. Our Scottsdale location and small program size create a manageable starting environment for rebuilding confidence.
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
OCD involves unwanted, intrusive thoughts (obsessions) that create intense anxiety, relieved temporarily by repetitive behaviors or mental acts (compulsions). The cycle is exhausting—you know the thoughts are irrational but can't stop the pattern without help.
Common Symptoms
- Intrusive thoughts
- Repetitive behaviors
- Contamination fears
- Need for symmetry
- Checking behaviors
- Mental rituals
- Time-consuming compulsions
How We Treat OCD at Redefine
Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) is the most effective treatment for OCD. We guide you through gradually facing feared situations while resisting compulsions, helping the brain learn that anxiety will decrease on its own. Neurofeedback supports this process by helping regulate the brain circuits involved in the OCD cycle.
Performance Anxiety
Performance anxiety involves intense fear of performing in front of others—public speaking, presentations, tests, athletic competition, or intimate situations. The anxiety often creates a self-fulfilling prophecy: fear of failure interferes with actual performance.
Common Symptoms
- Mind going blank
- Trembling voice/hands
- Racing heart
- Avoidance of opportunities
- Perfectionism
- Catastrophic thinking
- Physical tension
How We Treat Performance Anxiety at Redefine
Many of our clients are professionals whose careers require public performance. We combine neurofeedback for optimal brain state during high-pressure situations, somatic techniques for managing physical symptoms, and cognitive work to shift from threat-focused to task-focused attention. Skills transfer directly to real-world performance situations.
Workplace Anxiety
Workplace anxiety goes beyond normal job stress. It may involve constant fear of being fired, imposter syndrome, difficulty with authority figures, perfectionism that leads to paralysis, or chronic overwhelm that makes it hard to function. High-achievers are especially vulnerable.
Common Symptoms
- Imposter syndrome
- Fear of failure
- Procrastination
- Overworking
- Difficulty with feedback
- Burnout
- Sunday dread
How We Treat Workplace Anxiety at Redefine
Our IOP schedule (3 days/week, 9-12 hours) is designed for working professionals who can't step away from careers entirely. Treatment addresses both the anxiety symptoms and the underlying patterns—often perfectionism, fear of judgment, or unprocessed workplace trauma. Many clients return to work with clearer boundaries and sustainable performance strategies.
Relationship Anxiety
Relationship anxiety involves persistent fear and doubt about romantic relationships—constant worry about being abandoned, questioning if you really love your partner, jealousy, or difficulty trusting. It often stems from attachment patterns developed in early relationships.
Common Symptoms
- Fear of abandonment
- Constant reassurance-seeking
- Jealousy
- Difficulty trusting
- Overthinking the relationship
- Push-pull patterns
- Self-sabotage
How We Treat Relationship Anxiety at Redefine
Relationship anxiety often connects to attachment wounds and sometimes developmental trauma. We use EMDR and somatic therapy to process early experiences that shaped your attachment patterns, combined with skills training for healthier relationship behaviors. Group therapy provides a safe space to practice new ways of connecting.
PTSD-Related Anxiety
Trauma often manifests as anxiety—hypervigilance, startle responses, avoidance, intrusive memories. The nervous system remains stuck in threat-detection mode long after the danger has passed. This anxiety may or may not meet full PTSD criteria but significantly impacts daily functioning.
Common Symptoms
- Hypervigilance
- Exaggerated startle
- Intrusive memories
- Avoidance behaviors
- Nightmares
- Emotional numbness
- Feeling unsafe
How We Treat PTSD-Related Anxiety at Redefine
Trauma-related anxiety requires a trauma-informed approach. We combine EMDR to process traumatic memories, somatic experiencing to release stored nervous system activation, and neurofeedback to help the brain return to a regulated baseline. Our clinical team has specialized training in trauma treatment.

"Anxiety isn't a thinking problem. It's a nervous system problem that shows up in your thoughts. That's why talk therapy alone rarely resolves it."

How We Treat Anxiety at Redefine
Brain-Based Interventions
Anxiety involves overactive neural pathways in the brain's threat-detection system. We use qEEG brain mapping to identify specific dysregulation patterns, then apply targeted neurofeedback protocols to train the brain toward calmer baseline states. Clients typically notice reduced anxiety within the first two weeks of treatment.
Nervous System Regulation
Chronic anxiety keeps the autonomic nervous system locked in sympathetic activation—fight-or-flight mode. Somatic therapies address the physical patterns directly: releasing muscle tension, restoring normal breathing rhythms, and helping the nervous system access parasympathetic (rest-and-digest) states more readily.
Evidence-Based Psychotherapy
CBT, DBT, and ACT are gold-standard treatments for anxiety disorders, with decades of clinical research supporting their effectiveness. These modalities address cognitive distortions, build distress tolerance skills, and help clients develop a different relationship with anxious thoughts rather than trying to eliminate them.
Trauma Processing & Parts Work
Anxiety frequently has roots in earlier experiences or unprocessed trauma. EMDR, IFS, and Brainspotting allow clients to process underlying material without repeatedly retelling difficult stories. These approaches address the source of anxiety rather than just managing symptoms.
Treatment is individualized based on comprehensive assessment, including qEEG brain mapping. Your clinical team determines which combination of our large selection of modalities addresses your specific anxiety patterns. No two treatment plans look the same.

- Living With Anxiety
Signs You May Benefit from Anxiety Treatment
Weekly therapy works for a lot of people. But sometimes anxiety reaches a point where an hour a week isn’t enough to interrupt the pattern. Here’s what you need to look for:
- Work is suffering. Missing deadlines, avoiding meetings, calling in sick because you can't face the day.
- Relationships are strained. Canceling plans, snapping at people you love, feeling like you're too much.
- Sleep has become a problem. Racing thoughts at 2am, waking up exhausted no matter how many hours.
- Your body is keeping score. Chest tightness, stomach issues, headaches with no medical explanation.
- Avoidance is running your life. Your world is getting smaller, the list of things you won't do keeps growing.
-
Therapy has plateaued. You understand your anxiety, you have coping tools, but nothing is fundamentally changing.
If several of these sound familiar, intensive treatment might be the shift you need.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if my anxiety needs more than weekly therapy?
If you’ve been in therapy for months (or years) and still struggle with daily functioning, if your anxiety is affecting work, relationships, or sleep, or if you’ve developed coping strategies that aren’t actually working—intensive treatment may be the next step. The difference between weekly therapy and intensive programs is the ability to create real momentum. An hour a week often isn’t enough to interrupt deeply entrenched patterns.
What's the difference between PHP and IOP for anxiety?
PHP (Partial Hospitalization Program) is 5 days a week, 5-6 hours daily—ideal if anxiety is significantly impairing your ability to function and you need intensive support. IOP (Intensive Outpatient Program) is 3 days a week, 3 hours per day—better if you’re functional but stuck, or stepping down from higher care. Both include individual therapy, group work, and modalities like neurofeedback. We help you figure out which level fits.
Will I have to talk about my anxiety in group settings?
Group therapy is part of both programs, but you’re never forced to share more than you’re comfortable with. Groups are small (typically 6-10 people) and focused on skills, not trauma processing. Many people are surprised to find group is where they make the most progress—there’s something powerful about realizing you’re not the only one whose brain works this way.
How is neurofeedback used for anxiety treatment?
Neurofeedback trains your brain to produce calmer, more regulated patterns. We start with qEEG brain mapping to see exactly where dysregulation is happening—often in areas associated with hypervigilance, rumination, or sleep disruption. Then we train those specific areas. Most clients notice improved sleep and reduced baseline anxiety within the first few weeks. It’s not talk therapy—it’s literally retraining your nervous system.
Do you treat anxiety that co-occurs with other conditions?
Yes. Anxiety rarely exists in isolation. It often shows up alongside depression, trauma, ADHD, or substance use. Our treatment addresses the full picture rather than just the anxiety label. Sometimes what looks like “anxiety” is actually a trauma response, or the anxiety is masking depression. We figure out what’s actually driving your symptoms.
What insurance do you accept for anxiety treatment?
Most major insurance plans provide coverage for mental health programs that treat anxiety. We work with Aetna, Cigna, UMR, BCBS, MultiPlan, and many others. Our team verifies your specific benefits, explains your coverage, and handles authorization before you start—so you know exactly what to expect financially.

Anxiety Treatment Works
The research is clear: anxiety disorders respond well to evidence-based treatment. These numbers come from peer-reviewed clinical trials and meta-analyses.
Anxiety disorders affect approximately one in three American adults during their lifetime, making them the most common mental health condition in the country.
A systematic review of 403 randomized controlled trials found that initial treatment produces meaningful improvement in nearly half to two-thirds of patients, with cognitive behavioral therapy showing the strongest evidence.
A 2022 meta-analysis across 17 databases found neurofeedback reduced anxiety symptoms by nearly one standard deviation — a clinically meaningful improvement that holds across different anxiety presentations.
Flexible Treatment, Same Results
Research published in Current Opinion in Psychiatry confirms that internet-based and flexible treatment formats achieve comparable outcomes to traditional face-to-face therapy — making effective anxiety treatment more accessible than ever.
