Scottsdale Holistic Centers: What Makes Them Unique?

Holistic Treatment Center Scottsdale Redefine wellness and treatment lobby

If you’re here and reading this, I’m sorry. This is probably not a great time in your life and you’d rather not be here researching holistic treatment center Scottsdale. You’re probably dealing with some stresses, thoughts, and feelings you can’t sort out. Like many people, you may be on the fence about getting help. I’m a therapist, so my entire job is meeting people on their worst days. I know that lots of people never come to see me at all because they just aren’t sure what to expect. The whole process seems way too overwhelming. If you’re already just OVER IT, maybe that feels like one more thing.

Well, if it makes you feel better, I won’t know if you read this. Nobody will know if you decide to get help. But who knows, you might actually enjoy the experience. Let me tell you what we do so you can decide if it sounds good or not, and maybe I’ll see you.

A Unique Environment for Healing

Redefine Wellness and Treatment isn’t like other places. I know that all the places say that—but here, it’s true. If you’re searching for a Holistic Treatment Center Scottsdale has to offer, you may see a lot of the same words in descriptions: recovery, relief, wellness, meditation. But you may not get any sense of what the treatment feels like or what to expect. These words may not mean anything to you, so I’ll explain what this center feels like and what makes this place unique.

When you walk in the door, the first thing you’ll notice is the sound of water from the fountain in the front waiting area. The sound of water is so rare and refreshing out here in the desert. I recall immediately just feeling my shoulders drop from the sound. The atmosphere in this center has been specifically curated to relax and put people at ease—from carefully selected healthy snacks to the friendly staff, the clean, simple interiors, and well-designed, comfortable furniture. Even the plants are loved and cared for.

Whole-Person Care at Our Holistic Treatment Center in Scottsdale

At Redefine Wellness and Treatment in Scottsdale, Arizona, our team of mental health and wellness professionals is available to provide specific services that are designed to address different aspects of healing and recovery. Somatic experiences—those that rely more on the senses, like yoga, reiki, red light therapy, and sound baths—are great for people who have experienced trauma, feel tense in their bodies, or have trouble talking about what is bothering them. Sometimes traumatic events are so difficult to think about that talk therapy is challenging. You don’t know where to start or how to speak about them. So, an experience where you can feel safe and relaxed in your body is helpful.

This is the main difference you’ll get in a Holistic Treatment Center Scottsdale residents can access. With holistic care, we are addressing the body as well as the mind—not in an oversimplified or medical model that relies only on medication or diagnosis. We look at the ways a person may carry tension in their body from years of chronic stress and how to release that tension in a safe environment. Real change becomes possible.

When someone lives their life rushing from one thing to the next, one crisis after another, it’s almost impossible to reflect and understand the root causes of poor mental health. In many cases, traumatic events cause a person to feel like the whole world is unsafe. They may spend their entire life with their shoulders all the way up to their ears and their jaw clenched—without even realizing it. You can probably think of someone like this. If it’s not you, it’s someone you know. If it’s you, then GREAT—you’re still reading. Good job. Don’t worry, I still won’t tell anyone.

What If I Don’t Want to Share?

A common fear people have about going to a treatment center is: will I be forced to sit in a circle and talk about my feelings? My answer is—maybe, if that’s part of your plan. But if that’s something you aren’t interested in, you can always observe and engage in other activities. The chairs are very comfortable though. You may want to sit in the circle, just try out the chair and see how it feels. You don’t have to share anything more than what you’re ready for, but we sure would love to hear your perspective. You can feel free to start out observing and decide when and how to share. It’s often helpful to listen to the experiences of others.

Customizable Healing at Our Holistic Treatment Center in Scottsdale

The most unique feature of this program at Redefine Wellness and Treatment is that the program is fully customizable to the client. There are a variety of learning modules created by highly trained and diverse staff, and these will be chosen based on the needs and prior knowledge of the client. That means if you’ve already been to a treatment center, which many people have, you won’t have to sit through the same lectures again. Group topics and activities are interactive, personalized, and can actually be pretty fun. It’s not like a hospital, and it’s not like school—though it is a place you can go to feel better and learn.

Of the different types of therapy at Redefine Wellness and Treatment, you can choose between somatic and traditional talk therapy methods. Somatic treatments include neurofeedback, red light, breathwork, reiki, and meditation. Talk therapy and coaching can be in a group or individually. We have several different practitioners who specialize in different methods and come from different backgrounds. If you’ve never done talk therapy before, this can be intimidating—but it is always ok to tell a therapist, “I’m not ready to talk about that yet,” or say, “I don’t know,” or “I’m not sure.”

Preparation Is Progress

There is a skill in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy called “coping ahead,” which is often used to ease anxiety about a future situation. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy is often used in combination with somatic healing because the founder of this therapy, Marsha Linehan, spent time in monasteries learning mindfulness techniques and then applied them to work with patients. Coping ahead means planning in advance for an event so that we’re prepared and less likely to be caught off guard.

By reading this blog post, you’re coping ahead for attending a therapy session at our Holistic Treatment Center Scottsdale location. So you’re already engaging in therapeutic exercises. It really can be that easy. Adding small changes like this to your life over time makes a big, sustainable difference in your physical and mental health. I like to refer to it as “chipping away,” where small, repeated actions over time help clear a path forward.

The Talk Therapy Experience

A talk therapy session typically starts with gathering information. My preferred method is to leave it open-ended. I usually ask something like, “What was the thing that happened in your life where you knew you needed to get some help?” When I ask that, someone can usually start telling me a narrative of how they got to the point where they are. I get details about important people, family members, and life situations through the storytelling. There may be some assessments and specific questions, but by and large I can see where we may go with therapy just from hearing the story.

Sometimes people like to come in with a checklist or write out parts of their experience, and that’s ok too. If you want to make a timeline or write in a journal about what you’re experiencing, that can be very helpful. If you’re looking for a journal with prompts, I suggest the Self Love Journal by Leslie Marchand. A journal like this can help you start to see patterns as you write, similar to a therapist reflecting things back to you. It’s more private, and some people find it safer.

Journaling or making lists can also help you track how your symptoms have improved over time once you start doing therapy or other somatic practices.
